  • Capsid Bugs

All my currants were decimated by Capsid Bugs throughout the year. Still had some nice currants tho'. Just worried about next year and the bugs overwintering. Is there anything Organic that I can use to stop them. Attacked plants dont look nice, but do the capsids damage permanently?

they're sap suckers, so could spread viruses. Have a look here: BBC - Gardening - Advice: Pest and disease identifier

I have currants and they were completely unaffected by Capsid. But some of my apples within several feet of the currants had capsid attacks.
Why not try a capsid-attractive apple as a decoy?
You can peel off the Capsid-scarred bits of skin and the flesh underneath is still fine for eating or cooking. The damage looks much worse than it actually is.
My James Grieve and Bountiful apples suffer a fair amount of Capsid damage.
I would have thought that you could fairly easily find a bargain-priced James Grieve from somewhere like ALDI/LIDL/WILCO/Woollies etc.

Thanks ! That link is very good! No organic treatment other than pick off the bugs, and keep area free from debris. would spraying with washing up liquid help? Apple decoy could work. In fact my neighbour at the allotment has just planted an apple & a pear right next to my currants!!
What is a winter wash for trees??
