  • It's a mystery

After harvesting potatoes from two very large green potato bags, I sowed carrots into them and they were doing very nicely, lots of feathery green foliage. When I went into the garden just before dark this evening, I found that the foliage in one of the bags has been stripped to the stems - it looks like a goat or something has "grazed" there!! The other one is as lush and green as before and yet they are side by side. Any ideas?

I had a quick look on the surface Jeanied, but couldn't see any of the slimy beggars, unless they're hiding under the soil - but how do they leave all those delicate stems upright? Having said that, I've had some young lettuces stripped to just stems by the blighters, so they could be the culprits.

Not sure if this link will answer your problem Florence. I hope you find the cause.
You may have to put it down to that one eyed goat..........

So Bigmally, thankyou. I now know why carrots spark in the microwave. You learn something new every day. The slugs must also know that the carrot tops are nutritious, containing lots of potassium. I think I'd have preferred a visit from that one-eyed goat!

Did the one eyed goat ever return Florence?
