  • Does anyone have any tips for a home-made cat repellant

    Hello,

Please does anyone know of a home-made cat repellant for the garden. I have two cats and they seem to do their chores everywhere even after training them to a specific spot in the garden.

    Thanks in advance

Sorry Hollers - and welcome to the vine by the way! - the only effective repellant is a well aimed water pistol!!! This comes with the best of intentions - I am a cat lover and owner of 2 naughty beasts!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I like to see cat footprints in the snow at the allotments..............funny thing, when I see cat footprints I never see RAT footptints!

Nope......I'd rather have cats as rats!

If you put 'Cats' into the search box, top right, you'll come up with quite a few previous discussions Here's one; http://www.growfruitandveg.co.uk/gra...deterrent.html

I read in aa magazine once that cats and foxes do not like the urine of predators or carnavors, so if you have a spare lion hanging arroung bettger get cracking
Dont judge a plant by it's pot.

dried out tea bags sprayed with ralgex muscle spray are good ,as its oil based its relatively showerproof and biodegrades too.
the smell deters cats from the area, can't say i'm a fan either.

If you can get old-fashioned moth balls, they work well. Otherwise, short spikes of holly where you don't want them to go will help (or even just short sticks - makes it difficult for them to dig and sit down)

Is the specific area kept clean and free of old poo etc? Cat's (contrary to some beliefs) are very clean animals and hate going where there is already mess.

                I am the same

To agree I would prefer cats to mice or even rats !
My neighbour uses some pepper dust sort of thing. It seems to work really well because they all s?*t in my garden !

i put weed-control fabric down on my patches as they tend not to do their business ontop of that as they can't bury the evidence.
Although they have got better and laying their cables in any gaps or slits. Grubby little urchins!

I've got one of those ultra-sonic infra-red cat deterrants. It helps although it's not 100% effective, but the real problem is that the batteries only last a few weeks. I'd wire it up to the house if I had a long enough cable.

I've got one similar that plugs into mains & has PIR......It's very good. The cats scamper across the garden when it clicks them.
