  • Kania 2000 Squirrel trap

Well this year I have decided to try and do something about the squirrels digging up my plants and bulbs. I have looked at the various methods available including air rifle and have decided to give the above traps a go.

Anyone ever used these or have any comments?

Don't want to upset anyone, but they have to go and these traps seem to deliver a very quick ending.

How clever are these creatures? Will they realise that the steel box is makng their numbers diminish or will they just forget? Will I have to move it to different locations?

I've really tried to live with them but no longer.

We too are plagued by squirrels, but Hey I live next to a wood so they come with the garden really! But know what you mean about the blighters digging stuff up! Don't know about air rifles or traps but have heard that grating soap over pots or an area deters them from digging? It was on a gardening tip dvd.
Just out of curiosity, what will you do with them when you catch them?
We also have a beck through the back garden so can have a rat problem too! Has deterred me from feeding the birds as not nice to see a big fat rat on the bird table! Get rat man out from council when this gets too bad. But again we're never gonna eradicate them comes with the terratory, woods, beck, chickens next door etc. Still love it tho!

I plan to dispose of the carcasses in the usual way, I don't think they are fit to eat, whatever a TV chef says and its really not for me anyway.

Doh! Thought they were traps where the squirrels were alive, should have realised with airgun reference! Thats why I was curious thought you were gonna do a trap and release thing! Think may have read that someone on here may have eaten them tho? Can't say I fancy it myself!

There are two kind of traps, lethal and humane.
No need to explain what a lethal one does but teh one I am interested in is suppossed to be quick.

Humane one just catches it and it is against UK law to transport it without a license, so it is normally despatched at close range so to speak with air rifle or a quick blow to the head.
