Wasps already?

Just about to bathe Bean last night and I noticed a wasp nestled in between the wooden scrubbing brush and the wooden thing that goes across the bath (I'm sure there's a name for them).

Seemed very dozy, so picked up the brush and opened the window. Not sure if the wasp managed to get flying before he hit the ground, but got him out.

I'm guessing the smell of wood drew him in, but crikey knows where he came from.

Wasn't sure of putting this thread here or in wildlife section - some would say that wasps are beneficial I suppose.

We had wasps in the bathroom many years ago when our children were nippers. I saw a couple on a damp flannel draped over the bath.

Apparently there was a nest in the cavity wall of the house and they were getting int the bathroom through the unsealed area where the water outlet pipe went through the wall. The outside bit was nicely sealed- but the inside wall wasn't!
They'd squeezed round the edge of the bath panel to access the bathroom.
Certainly not good with young ( or older) kids about

We had a bee (I think it was actually a bee-mimicking hoverfly because it didn't buzz) appear in the house yesterday. We hadn't had the windows/door open either, (hadn't opened them since the end of autumn actually, lol) so no idea how long he'd been in here or where he came in from

It could be an overwintering one, Wayne. Good job you spotted it as they can get nasty when they are sleepy. I want to know who is letting the bluebottles in the house - I blame the cat for opening the window just as they fly past.

I have one over wintering in my wildlife hotel in the garden, I was fascinated with them last year with the amount of caterpillar's they flew of with, anything that eats caterpillar's is my friend.
