  • I have a field of lesser celandine :-(

Went out to look at the pretty yellow flowers to discover them creeping towards the veg plot. Spending an hour weeding them to try and pick as many tubers out and feeling thoroughly depressed.

Is it possible to kill them by smothering them under black plastic?

They like shade, and moist conditions. Try and reverse that, if you can.

You need to kill it now, because the flowers will die back next month and you won't be able to see it.

Hand-weed individually if you can bear it.

Oh gosh- I have them in my lawn!!!

I think a hot French summer might just hold them in check????

I've got lots of them in my garden, being shady and at the edge of a wood. They do occaisionally get into the veg bit but are quite easy to weed out of there, you do have to get every bit of the roots though, they have a habit of breaking off just as you're pulling them up!
I've resigned myself to having them in the rest of the garden, it's just too much work to remove them when they're established, unless you want to go down the weedkiller root, which I don't.
          Good Luck
