it's started early what ever the munchers name, know it's not slug, snail or birds, they leave a pattern around the outside of the leaves, but seem not to affect the beans growing, yet

my edges are not black and never seen others on the lottie either,i wonder if a sticky strip would attract them, like fly paper,or twosheds vasalene on cardboard, and shake the plants, the mind boggles

It's the pean/bean weevil. Last year I had pea aphids - this years it's weevils. They play dead when they see you or you knock them off. I've squished some already. Two Sheds and Flum both said on another thread that they're not disastrous and the plants will still grow. I'm hopeful but not convinced as mine look a bit carp. Oh yeah and I think I have the black edges too

It is the pea/bean weevil. I get them every year and have not noticed any discernible loss of crop. I tried catching & crushing one year: it's pointless, there are too many of them, so now I don't bother

Ants farm aphids - watch out for black flies.

I have BIG problems with weevils mostly the notorious Vine Weevil, but all weevil's cause damage to leaves and root's, weakening the plant, leaving it open to infection and sometimes killing it. The link below will help you identify your weevil and how to treat it.

                      Hope this help's you ?

Blimey! Do you have to treat 'em? What, like take them to the pictures and buy them an ice-cream?

Blah. I have nibbled broad beans too and the wretched things have made a start on my peas as well! Hopefully they won't affect them too badly apart from aesthetically as the flowers are now showing on the beans are they look nice and strong - just a bit frilly!

I know people have said they have lost plants to these critters but I never have. It's just the look of the thing.
