  • Slug Gone! Anyone tried it??

I went to the Bath Flower Show today (nothing like Chelsea I'm afraid). Anyway on one of the stalls was a product called Slug Gone, it's made from pure wool pellets. The farmer reliably informed me that it really did work so I bought some and have sprinkled liberally around my veg plants. I now smell like a wet sheep Just wondered if anyone has tried this and whether or not its a success?

It was £5.95 for a 3.5 litre tub. They were selling smaller bags for £2. It says on the tub that it's a rich source of nitrogen for the plant aswell as sealing in moisture. Once the pellets are watered in they form a bit of a crust on the soil so no good for seedlings. Apparently the wool contains abrasive particles which irritate the slimy ones Will report back on my success (or lack of it)!

I used a similar product last year called slugbuggers. It did seem to be quite effective and a double whammy in that it was good for the soil. Have bought two more buckets this year but have not had the chance to put it down yet.

Slugbuggers sounds very much the same. I'm glad it seems to work, the snails seem to congregate on my copper rings and I'm not much good at the night time hunting by stealth!

I've tried it before and it does stink!!!! However it didn't protect my plants from slugs as my lettuce was decimated so I never bought it again. I got mine from Wiggly Wrigglers for a darn site more than you paid.

It's a lot more expensive online! Will just have to keep my fingers crossed that my slugs are extremely sensitive to sheep!
I may have a problem that my veg is in pots so the leaves overhang on quite a few. Short of covering the patio in hairy pellets I'm not sure how I'll keep the slugs away.
