Those meeces did for my Bored beans in the Autumn . Left the stems on the ground and dug a neat little hole to nick the seed, and the plants were a decent size as well. This time each plant had a plastic collar made out of a bottle for a few weeks till they'd really got going and it seems to have worked.

I'm convinced it is mice. Moved all the remaining maize onto suspended shelving...mission impossible mouse will have to work for them...
Had a bad experiance with mouse trap many yearss back and haven't used one since but, on the now empty bog rolls waits a little nipper with a juicy corn kernel.....bait in a box by the likely entry point...this is war!

....could only get one of the traps to work. but at least it got him properly...very concerned that I would find a distressed rodent with a trap on its tail mowing down everything in its wake (a previous harrowing undersink experiance on returning from clubbing one night in London)

Well done! I had one pea seedling nipped off by a bird after they were planted out. It has bushed now and is nearly as big as the others. Is there enough left to come back - or has mousy done for them completely?Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

No damage or scratching in corn ....I fixed window, left poison, but didn't reset trap.
We did see a huge rat yesterday though...don't think he's going to get in to greenhouse but still need to make sure he doesn't want to move in to our garden.

Glad you caught the culprit - its so frustrating when 'whatever' just seems to slice the plants down but not eat them - at least slugs have the decency to enjoy a good feed on whatever they destroy! I had the same problem with my tomato plants this year - except they were indoors, in the study and the only things I can think of that mowed them down and left them neatly lying where they once stood are the cats and disappointed though I was, I didn't have the heart to set a trap for them!!
