  • Friend or Foe?

I kept finding this handsome fella (or girl?) today, whilst digging up Ground Elder. It's abut an Inch long, and moves very quickly, and didn't bite me (luckily!), so I put him (her) back. I've had a (very) quick Google, but as it's late, I thought I'd 'ask the audience!!!' Anyone know what it is, please?

(...and 'Beetle' is not allowed! )

I think it's a woodland carabid beetle from what I've found on the internet. Apparently it likes climbing trees and eating caterpillars.

Not sure what it is but as a 'rule of thumb' beetles are friends and eat bugs!

Thanks Selfraising - I think you're right. I'm glad I put it back - not that I would have harmed it anyway. It was just lovely to see such a brightly coloured Beetle.

It looks like Carabus nemoralis part of the ground beetle tribe and is a "good guy" unless you happen to be a slug, nice shot.
