  • Friend or Foe ?

Found this today on one of my cauliflowers. Can anyone identify it please? It doesn't have any wings so I'm pretty sure it's not a wasp.

I think its a 'wingless wasp' or velvet ant. The females don't have wings although the males do and they can give a nasty sting. wasps.Velvet Ants, Cow Killer, Wingless Wasps that Sting

I don't think yours is a velvet ant, it's not well, velvety enough

This one seems a bit closer, but not quite right.

It does look like a wasp beetle (Clytus arietis) to me, if it is then it poses no threat to your veg.

I think most of the hymenoptera are pretty harmless to the veg and are probably quite useful in controlling pests.

After much close scrutiny of piccies it has got to be a wasp beetle. Well done TEB and hopefully it was after a meal of a slug or two.
