  • Goosebery mildew

I have had a trawl through the past threads but am still unsure.

I replanted a row of goosegogs a couple of years ago one bush i split into three and got the couch etc out. another resue job from the lottie and the fith I brought...purple one...maybe Wynhams. This one's fruit is covered in mildew but it doesn't seem to be on the other plants.they are not over crowded (aiming for goblets) or disimilar to one another. There is too much to cut out infected parts. I am concerned it will spread.

    do I?
    1. Spray it...not my style...don't even know what with.
    2. Dig it up and burn it as a bad job
    3. Use another clever grapes solution

RHS advice is to "Dust with sulphur or spray with Systhane fungicide."

Unhelpfully, they don't say anything about whether it spreads to other bushes.

Not good, Paulottie. However mine do not suffer - these are replacements for my original batch on the lottie which were planted at the shady end of the plot where I have now located the shed and compost bins. These had mildew almost as soon as they appeared.
Current bushes are Invicta and a red variety but, as usual, I lost the label.
My lottie neighbour has some bad mildew infections which I still think is due to lack of breeze blowing through the bushes. But the other consideration has to be, what is wafting its way through from other plots?
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I had a bush by a fence which I never got a crop from, it was so bad every year. Cuttings from that bush, in more open areas, never suffer from it at all. Increasing air flow does seem to be important.

Prevention is the best option. This can be done with a weekly spray of diluted skimmed milk. No greater than 1 milk to 10 water. Mildew doesn't always spread to every plant, one of the plots on the lottie has one bush with a serious infection but is the only one on the whole site.
