Foxes!!! I'm gutted!

I took over my allotment in November, it is was really overgrown and unused for several years. So, I was really chaffed when I finished my first bed on Monday and planted out my courgettes plants.

This morning I went to check on them only to discover that something (foxes?) had been digging around in the bed!! I feel gutted. Of course, this is all new to me so am most probably being more emotional than necessary.

I have covered the bed with newspaper and then put a layer of farmyard manure from Homebase on top. I thought foxes didn't like manure but these ones obiviously love my manure because they have even ripped open a couple of sealed bags I have laying around.

Anyway, I had to share this with someone as my 4yr and 6yr olds not seem to comprehend how I feel

I have to share my lottie with a visiting fox too, CADS. This one decided to dig a hole right in the middle of the parsnip seed bed. Needless to say I no longer have rows, I have patches of parsnips.
I think the fox is after earthworms. They make a lot of mess and do some damage.
On the bright side they do control vermin and no wabbit dares come near.

Yes, I don't think rodents and rabbits will be a problem. Just foxes, cats and tons of bindweed and brambles. DH will have to start peeing in bottles.

We have fox damage from time to time - but badgers are particular vandals! Any newly turned earth is a magnet for cats!

Hope you have something left to salvage - and whatever happens - don't let this put you off the wonderful experience of growing something for the table yourself.
