Just one rabbit

Help! One rabbit has appeared in our garden (it's a big garden, he/she is grazing on the large grassed area).

Not too much in the veg garden is vulnerable, as I've used cages over the brassicas, but I think he's taken a liking to the beetroot leaves...

So, how do I get rid of/disuade one small rabbit.....and no, I'd rather not shoot it ?

Fencing is the only way to go!
They will burrow down about a foot to get under- thererore you need netting below ground level. Heightwise- well I've seen a bunny leap over a 3ft fence easy peezy- so at least 4 ft
Also they can springboard off something on the otherside- so at that point it needs to be higher!
Garden?..hmm- seems a bit extreme doesn't it??

So....first of all- where is there an access point? A bunny can get under a gate.
Infact I've seen an adult bunny get through a 2x2" hole at a fast dash!

I'd say your easiest bet is to put a moveable cage over the vunerable area.
OR- is your veg area in a suitable spot that you could propely fence off the whole area put over to fruit and veg?It won't protect the rest of your garden-but would be a lot cheaper!

Mind you...one bunny this year- how many next???

(...and being nocturnal even owning a dog wouldn't make that much difference me thinks!)

Yup, borrow a Terrier. If there's one Wabbit, there's hundreds!

Or a large cat - my big black one can catch rabbits...

Cat?- ha! I have a friend whose tom cat killed - and brought back- the next doors terrier!!!

I have a rabbit....yes just one (so far) in my garden.

Its living in a bed of shrubs.

It hasnt gone near any of my veggies, just the grass, dandelions etc.

I want to rehome it somewhere else though as i dont want to be over run with them.

My rabbit is a cottontail. I read up a bit about them and they can live on their own unlike the other rabbits.....I hope this is true.

My son almost caught it with the butterfly net.

Said rabbit isnt doing any harm yet and my boys are loving having him around., so i will have to wait and catch it when the boys arent here.


We live out in the countryside, so we are gonna have all sorts of unwanted guests out here.

I've got a ferrule peacock eating lettuce, cabbage,courgettes., flowerheads...
and scratching up anything in the way of some insects in the soil

I'm in the middle of the countryside too veggiemama- and NOBODY even mentioned PEACOCKS!!!!

As a way of saying 'thanks for the nosh' he'll do a tapdancing/rollerblading routine on the cars

Hahaha, now that i would want to see :-)

Dont think i can compete with a peacock but we have had a pheasant regularly visit, not munching on anything, just passing through, having a walk in the garden

nice scratch and peck marks..he can see his reflection and pecks away.
At least I have an excuse not to wash my car once the hosepipe ban is lifted!

I've got a few photos - I'll see if I can get someone to post them for me in the next few days!

One used to 'admire' its reflection on the lovely shiny black bonnet of my car (years ago). He left big deep gouges in the paintwork where he tried to grip as he slid off! Luckily, a touch-up pen, and a polish with MER sorted my pride and joy.

Eventually a gun sorted the darn bird!

Well- the hunting season starts in the next few weeks- so I don't reckon his chances are high

We'll just try and enjoy his little ways between now and then!
