Hi Polly, I've given your thread a new identity all of it's own so that people can see your question.

    And Welcome to the Vine.

i dont think so- deadly nightshade is a pretty, delicate flower; purple with a yellow center ( stamen). the plant you have shown, looks to me like an ornamental shrub which i call 'the fishy bush' (!!) i dont know the real name, but someone on here will know what i mean and post the correct name

Thank you for your reply. The small flowers are creamy pink and the large green leaves have purple around the edges. I'm just worried about the berries - are they poison?

That's not deadly nightshade - (also named Bryony).
That one is an ornamental - but I have no ideas what!

After a bit of brain cudgelling I think it may be a member of the Clerodendron family - just an idea.

Thank you for reply - I'm mystified as to what it could be..... I've looked through so many images on Google and Deadly Nightshade was the only plant that looked a similar

I think it is Leycesteria formosa.

One of my customers has one by her front door!

                        Glad to be of service!

My customer doesn't like it, as she says it grows too quickly She doesn't 'do' gardening! Hopefully, when I next have a garden of my own, she may let me dig it up and take it away!

Definitely not Atropa Belladonna, the berries are similar, but the flowers and leaves are nothing like the one we;ve got in the front garden!

It is definitely Leycesteria Formosa, also known as pheasant berry. Found this link for you http://www.gardenersworld.com/plant-...pheasant-berry

thats the one i call fishy bush, because someone told me it reminds her of fish scales, but now i will refer to it as the 'birdy bush' aka pheasant berry!!!
