  • Who dun dat?

Any idea what did this to one of my potatoes?

I looked up some images, and the closest I can find is the Potato Rot Nematode (Ditylenchus destructor), but there was a small centipede-looking creature in it (and some small white bugs that looked like thrips), the centipede-thing looked too big to be a nematode (He's in the second picture).

Ah yes, The Yukky worm (Yukkieae yukkinatii) hadn't thought of that!

It looks like whatever did it is of a certain size as all the holes seem to be a fairly uniform diameter (about the size of the round-end of a chop stick)

Nice one. Looked up slug damage to potatoes and found this:

I think that looks like our culprit. I imagine Senior Centipede and the Thrips (That'd make a good band name) were just squatting.

I found all kinds of bugs in my spuds last year. The slugs made the holes, then millipedes and chafer grubs moved in.

We used to get a lot of damage like that when we were growing on clay soil...the slugs and couch grass used to head directly for the water containing spud during the dry summer periods

              Squatters???...yup
