  • urgent help needed newbie here?

hi all i have a few chilli plants on my windowsill with an artificial light above them

today when planting a new plant i noticed if you dig in the compost with your finger there are loads of tiny white bugs i mean the size of a pin head if that. they jump but you have to look really close

also i have found a few white what i can describe as maggots about 5-7mm long very small in the compost too

and finally there are a few tiny black flys around very small too about 3-4mm

questions are what are these 3 beasties i have and also how do i get rid of them. there are lots in the compost.

cn i buy anything to kill them but not harm or damage my plants thanks

hope to hear back very soon

tiny black flies and maggots are fungus gnats, due to overwatering

ok thats a releif that the fly and maggots are the fly i have read and they dont sound as though they harm the plant and neither do the springtails so i am not going to water for a few days and let it dry off see if i can get rid of them

any more tips in getting rid of both the spring tail and gnat fly and maggot

You could wash off all the old compost, and repot into fresh
