Luckily Mr D was off today and spotted a problem with our celery. Using our "vegetable expert" book, he has identified it as the celery fly (leaf miner). Am gutted as we seem to have had problem after problem with our crops this year. The celery were doing really well and now I am concerned we may have to cull the lot. Wasnt going to be on-line at all today as its girls 1st birthday but they are asleep at the mo and I felt this needed urgent attention so I came to the experts
Has anyone had this in the past? Did you get any type of crop? We will squish the little beasties as it stated but would prefer not to use "Malathion" or "crop saver" as we prefer to be as organic as possible. I notice on a post from late summer last year that Zaz suggested garlic or chili spray - would that work on celery too? My biggest concern is that it says that stalks are stunted and bitter but is that only if the leaves die? Are we best to crop now and freeze? I do use alot in cooking so we wouldnt feel its been a total waste of time.
Please somebody come to my rescue as feel like abandoning the plot right now as this is just one problem too many
