Do they though? I haven't seen one for years, all the farms round here (and there are loads) use spinny things and fake gunshots. Scares me when I'm cycling round the country lanes

A lot of the fields around here have fake hawks...kite type things, not sure if they only work when there's a breeze or if they're powered by something?

I stood in front of a 'banger' when I was little and it burnt a hole in my favourite Tshirt...don't ask why I did it

They definately do in the fields bordering my lotty. Either that, I'm hallucinating, or scarey very raggedy people are standing very still in the fields. I agree that you don't see them as often as you used to though.

I've seen the kite things too. They go up really high where there is a fairly constant breeze I think.

Those "banger" bird scarers used to frighten the bugger out of me when I was younger so wouldn't go anywhere near them them. Being shot by one must have been pretty scary

I used to use the bangers on a rope in an empty 40 gallon drum to keep birds off the cricket wicket.
One evening, cricketers arrived and parked there cars neatly in the car park next to the wicket. 'BANG' goes the banger 'EEEh AWW EEH AWW HOOT HOOT HOOT' went all the car alarms!

Hi, I work for a company who sells said 'kite things' to farmers, they are 'self flighting' and launch themselves but they do need alot of room, and cost £80 - £119 for the standard kite and also the hawk version. They are very good at protecting large areas. Search for ' scare m kite'

Although pigeons do get used to most scarers this year we have had very good reviews of the Big Cheese STV924 Bird Scarer

One farmer bought 5, then returned to buy 24 more!!

They are cheaper and smaller than the kites and seem to work, for now!
