  • Tiny white flies on my carnivorous plants

    Hi all,
I have asmall pitcher plant, venus flytrap and sundews all are infested with tiny little white flies, the sundews have grown a bit skwonky now. I'm not sure what i can treat them with for it. I now they can be a bit sensitive.

    Any advice gratefully received

    Thank you

    sounds like whitefly

you could try sticky traps held over the plants - wobble the plants and the flies (moths) will fly up and get stuck

thank you two sheds. i had been trying to pick them off but the plants are quite small and delicate, are the eggs(i think that's what thye are) ok to stay. i had the tweezers out trying to get them off but i think i was doing more damage than good???

Also are they temp dependant .... if i put the plants outside over night will it kill the bugs?

      thanks again

i had a problem with bugs on my CP's last year, i just used a bug spay from B&Q and it sorted it out. if you dont like chemicals you cound sink then in water for an hour or so. expect some deformed leaves when the new growth arrives but it will only last 1 season. as for the temp, the sundews dont like the wet and cold but i think all sarracenia need a cold dormant spell. mine spent all winter in an unheated GH.

thanks Scott. I have now put the pitcher plant and venus fly trap in unheated porch having read a bit more on the internet, i didn't realise they needed a dormant period.
