  • White Flies

    Hi All,

First of all, I'm new to the forum, so hello!! I'm a bit of a noob herb/veg grower, and have just found some white mite/flies in my chicory which I'm growing outside in pots. I was wondering if this sounds like a familiar problem to anyone, and what the solutions are. I've only grown Chicory for 2 seasons, but don't remember the stalks being quite as "sappy" when I broke them last season. I was thinking that the sappiness cold be related to the infestation of white mites? Could they infect the rest of the garden?

    Thanks in advance,

Chicory is liable to be attacked by whitefly. I find that spraying them with washing up liquid can keep the little blighters under control, as I do not like using chemical sprays. I have bot heard of whitefly affecting the liquid content of a plant, but someone else may have met this.

Once you have got rid of the whitefly you could use a micro mesh cover for protection.

What dosage are we talking for washing up liquid? Is it a universal dose for use on various plant pest controlling or can it vary depending on what plant is the victim?
