Himself (plant recorder for VC61) says it's Bugloss - Anchusa arvensis. I googled it and by golly, he's right!

I had bugloss in mind, but couldn't find the right one. Well done Mr Flum ! (bugloss is somehow derived from ox's tongue, because that's the shape of the leaves)
It's a wildflower (but if you don't like it, it's a noxious weed)
