I had a couple of freebie packets of Ageratum seed(long out of date) which I decided to sow in a couple of plug plant cell trays that some lobelia plugs came home in earlier this week. (The lobelia was very healthy and is growing on well.) I didn't wash the cell trays - perhaps a bad move - but I filled both of them with new compost out of the same bag, watered the compost with water from the same source, sowed a packet of seed in each of the two trays and then put both of the trays on my windowsill together inside a single poly bag. One tray has germinated after about 4 days, the other is totally covered in hairy fungus. Both lots of seed looked really fresh but I suspect one of the packets had managed to rupture at some point in time and allowed a fungus to enter. Any other possible causes?
