My plot has loads in flower, couple seeding already. Can I compost the yellow flower heads? It's a bit of a pain taking all the flower heads off

If you get your compost heap working properly, any seeds should be cooked in the high temperature generated.

Why don't ya make Dandelion Wine chris. Saves wasting them...well not wasting them, but ya know what I mean .

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. The flower heads still go to seed even when removed. They're tenacious chuffs them dandelions. We put a load in our weed bin today. Hopefully they'll drown/rot before I add them to the compost in a few weeks.

I agree with Shadylane rot them in water before adding to the compost bin, the liquid when diluted to the colour of weak tea makes a good feed for your tomatoes so don't tip that in the compost. That way you get the goodness back that they stole from your plot in the first place.

I've been digging out and deadheading all the dandys in my back garden for 3 years now: there are more than ever

I shall persist - digging out as much root as I can and filling the hole with lawn seed. Pray for me

Home made Dandelion & Burdhock pop. It's yummy and free. When God gives you dandelions...make wine & pop...simples .

They survive in water for a long time: I've tried drowning them, but they resist! Now I roast them on a hot path for a few days until crispy, then chuck on compost heap

Cheers TS - I've left them just on weedfabric now. BTW, with your stoney paths (I'm copying you there) do you find they harbour slugs on wet days?
