  • Are woodlice harmful to plants?

Sorry if this is a daft question, but I was planting out peas last night and I seemed to be digging up a heck of a lot of woodlice, baby ones and full grown ones so I assume they've made a home for themselves there. Just wondering if they are harmful to plants at all or if they can damage young plants?

No they aren't harmful - they are part of the clean-up squad who feed on decaying plant matter and wood!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

We have a bit of old broken tile in the garden, just lying flat on the soil. Every week or so, Himself lifts it and takes it to the chicken run and the girls fall on it and gobble the woodlice up. Don't know why. The woodlice aren't harming anything, but the chickens do love them and he's a chicken softie!
