  • Clean Mice

When I first got my allotment I didn't realise (sigh) that I would get mice in my shed and after raids on bird seed extra got a store of tins from charity shops to stop that little caper.
Now I find they've eaten a whole bar of soap!

And they say to use cheese as bait in mousetraps! Sorry, I know it's not funny, but mice (and rats) eat all sorts of strange things. I spent 3 months in East Africa, and there was a rat that was very partial to Imperial Leather soap- we did catch it eventually, but it got through lots of soap. It was really eerie going to the bathroom in the morning and finding the soap on the floor with teeth marks in it

I have just had a vision of a rat or mouse hiccup-ing bubbles!

Well, it wasn't Imperial Leather but a very good bar of organic soap, locally made so must have been very tasty. However I hope that is the last eatable left in my shed.

Did your soap contain bees wax?

            Do mice eat soap?
            Thought it was only rats!
Might be worth investigating further cos if it's rats then you need to sort things out more urgently!

My Grandad had a dog who developed a taste for soap ( Avona ? ), maybe beacause he liked it or was underfed.

Whatever you do don't let them drink Harpic it sends them clean round the bend.

They're amazing really aren't they. Did you know that they can derive nutritional benefit from window putty!!!!! What survivors.

They are attracted to anything with a strong smell, that's why cheese is traditionally associated with them. Actually, I don't think they're particularly fond of it.

If you must set traps for them, the thing to use is chocolate. Being hard they can't get it off the traps without triggering them.....and they can smell it a mile away.

Seems a shame, but I suppose they have to be controlled and a quick trap is better than poison I suppose.

Blimey Nicos not Rats (staggers a bit and goes white)
I can't see where they're getting in though, I know mouse holes can be minute but rats? Can't see any crapping either mouse or otherwise, all I was left with was a drift of what looked like dandruff where the soap dish was.

There is nothing else for them to eat in there, won't they go away? I've seen mice (field) but that's all apart from a shrew once.

Do you really think it's rats????

We had a couple of rats down the lottie and loads of rabbits. Then a fox moved in. We now just have a very healthy and well fed fox. He's called Bazil by the way!
