  • Snowball Turnip Disease

Most of the Snowball turnips I am pulling now have this brown marking.

No visible signs of entry and nothing living inside.

Is it possibly Brown Heart as mentioned in the Hessayon book?

Pretty annoying as the turnips look great, even when cleaned and peeled, then you slice them and see this mess.

I was going to say 'cabbage root fly' but you don't have tunnels.

Roots are perfect as far as I can see.

I did find an old 2008 post where Snadger mentioned boron/borax deficiency.

Boron is a key trace element for the prevention of Brown Heart according to this web site. Turnip - growing Turnips - how to grow Turnips. Never had that problem myself but perhaps there is a natural supply of boron in my soil.
