hissing beetle

My mate's wife found a beetle with two orange stripes in their wormery. She says it hissed at her. I've asked for a pic but he's too scared to go near it. He's over 6ft and built like a brick outhouse too. Anyone any idea what this could be?

My first thought was cockroach ... Google suggested this ~ I've never heard them hiss though, and it's not stripy

It could be a female longhorn beetle Stenocorus cursor; the species are known to stridulate loudly.

Im guessing bins is going along the same line as me and that is VW beetle! lol

it was the 6ft and built like a brick sh*thouse bit that got me worried .......In my defence I was at work and read it quickly m'lud .....but what with the size of AP's onions I just thought they grew big beetles up there as well
