Thats such a shame. I must be really lucky, I have a foxes den behind my greenhouse at the plot but we never have any problems with them.

        Ananke,
We had a fox for many years in a disused shed next door, in fact it's been there so long I am not sure if it's even the same fox. The shed was removed this year and replaced with a brand new one with a locked door so this may be some form of revenge.

As to last night the window rattling did no good what so ever. This afternoon I have pegged down some plastic netting loosely in the hope he won't like that under his feet. Will shall see but it's deffo war from now on in.

No sign of digging on my patch this morning. However as I was leaving home a neighbour from a few doors down stopped me. Last night he had his lawn damaged maybe the lad as moved on to better pickings.

Another night with no damage, maybe he as moved on or maybe he doesn't like the loose netting under his feet. Fingers crossed.

Well he has failed to return, just wondering how long to leave the netting down before trying to repair the lawn before winter sets in.

I think I will be keeping the netting down a while yet. SWMBO called me about 10 mins ago and looking out the bedroom window she pointed out two cubs wandering down the middle of the road.

They were obviously this years young just have a walk about, play fighting and totally unaware of their surroundings. I will leave the net down till they have learnt that urban foxes don't have to grub for slugs etc.

There used to be stuff on the market called Reynadine. Used to soak twigs etc placed around the perimeter and in the garden. Really horrible smelly stuff intended to deter foxes and other pests but so smelly it deterred human beans n all

                        Update on the fox problem.

I have discovered that the main problem is not our young fox but and infestation of Chafer grub in the lawn. He (the fox) was only looking for supper. Treatment for chafer grub starts tomorrow.

Ooh, that's worth knowing ! You're far from the first person to have this problem...

Hey, does that mean M.Reynard is no longer a pest, but is now classified as "an organic biocontrol consultant and operative" ?

Up until now, I haven't had a problem with foxes. I live in the back of beyond and don't get them. This may sound crude to allot of people but one way I keep foxes away is take a pee all around the boundary of the garden, or save it in a bottle, the fox does not like scent of a man, it has to be a man though, this seem's only to work. My neighbour and I both have chickens, but the fox never comes into my garden and always eats his. Both our chickens roost in trees and we both have dogs. So the pee seems to work.
The only other ways are to trap and shoot, or trap and free somewhere. The fox will always come back, there are so many now they really don't care where they get there food from as long as they get it.
Its a shame that we have to go to such measures to control wild animals, after all they are wild and we built near them, but that is the way it is, we are the top of the food chain and the superior animal on this planet. So long as we don't wipe them out of existence..........................

See, I've never understood this reasoning, because you get foxes in towns, lot of them. They eat out of our rubbish bags, which must STINK of human. They also go round the backs of takeaways which I know for a fact STINK of man pee
