We had a tour round Beechgrove Garden with Jim Mccoll earlier this year. Before we started, he made sure we were aware that what we see on the telly is a tv set and that there would be areas in the garden that aren't seen on telly that would be weedy and untended. So they look after the bits we see really well with a squad of full time professionals - not the presenters. Monty's garden will be largely the same i imagine.
Weeds are becoming quite fashionable now anyway.....................................
I used to worry about trivialities like weeds but as long as my areas are producrive with veg for me and the soil is well nourished, I can live with a few annual weeds.
I'll have a bit of a clear up today of the pernicious varieties but the others I'll just leave as a green manure!
My Majesty made for him a garden anew in order to present to him vegetables and all beautiful flowers.- Offerings of Thutmose III to Amon-Ra (1500 BCE)
Although I would no way claim my plot is weed free it is definitely better than it was when I took it on. Not allowing weeds to seed is having an effect. Unfortunately I'm surrounded on three sides by plots which are regularly flowering and seeding weeds. I'm afraid I take my shears to the dandelion clocks so they seed where they are not float on to my plot. Makes me feel better too!
