  • Wasp Nest

I have a wasp nest that was only discovered mid October. Because it was so late in the season I left it where it was, in the roof of our bungalow, just opposite the veg plot.

The problem is that it is still active! The traffic in and out is much reduced but, despite several quite cold nights, 4C last week, there is still a steady stream of wasps going to and fro.

Can anyone tell me what actually causes the wasps to die out, I thought it was just cold weather. At this rate it is still going to be there next year

I had one in my garden this year although it was small and it hasn't been active for a month. I read that as winter comes their food supply becomes scarce and they die out. It has been quite warm up till now so my guess it could be several more weeks at least before they run out of their food source. We have only had one ground frost down here so far.

We have one too but it is now starting to die down. About a month or so ago we were getting loads coming through any windows we opened on that side but they were already getting quite slow and lazy so easy to catch and throw back outside. Unless a wasps nest is somewhere really highly traffiked then I'd never do anything about it anyway, they do a lot of good in spring and get a worst than deserved reputation.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
