Can't help with the tree Treenoob but welcome to the Vine. Hang on there for one of the fruit experts who I am sure will know what is the matter. It looks a fair size. Have you any idea of its age? Where are you by the way as it helps when advice is being given. Just add your location to your profile

We inherited a very old plum, so old that we have to prop it up as its trunk is basically woodpecker fodder - its root stock (a bullace) is now growing vigorously too...

The incredibly old plum has the same look about its bark - we have had fantastic plums from it for the last 3 years we have lived here, so as far as I can see, no probs!

(For those of you who read the "am I senile" thread, had to think twice about the name of the tree, wanted to call it a pear..... oh dear)

I've just scuttled back in from the garden after looking at our plum tree, looks just the same only more so. It looks as though the trunk is growing fatter and splitting the outer bark.

Our tree is also festooned with blossom so I shouldn't worry too much. Get ready for the plum moth ! ! ! Cheers, Tony.
