  • Tomato trouble

    Hi everyone,

I'm a beginner gardener and have currently got two 'gardener's delight' tomato plants growing in my greenhouse. One plant is thriving and looks very happy, the other looks sickly. Some of the leaves are alittle brown in places (which then rubs off). I also found some bugs on it, the bugs are so small they are about the same size as a full stop. I could barely see it! I've pinched off the worse leaves but have no idea what's eating my poor tomato plant. Do you guys have any ideas or remedies i can use? I really dont want to loose a plant, cos i love my plants already!

Greenhouse has recently been cleaned out and the base concreted. Does have a small broken area in one of the glass roof panels. I'm also growing 2 chillie plants, 2 cucumber plants and a corgette plant along with 26 sunflowers! Also the plants were purchased from B&Q if that makes any difference!

are the little bugs green - if they are they might be aphids (look under the cucumber and courgette leaves)

they look black to me. Have had someone else look at the poor thing and he reckons its just scorched? He's a farmer's son so hopefully knows what he's on about. I'll try to take a photo of it in the morning.

yeh scorch is also another possibilty - and thinking about it he's probably right - i just automatically assumed that it was the bugs causing the damage, but that may not be the case!

Scorch is usually pale straw colour.

Overwatering results in soft brown leaf tips

Bugs: at this time of year, greenfly is most likely. They are green but can look like they have black spots if you look really close

ok, so i've had a really good look at the sickly plant and i *think* it has flea beetle. I saw 5/6 of them on the plant stem then when i went to squish them, they jumped a good couple of inches away. I'm going to repot the healthy plant to try to avoid it. With any luck, one will survive!
