  • Pop-up plant protector possibly?

Any thoughts on using one of those mesh pop-up laundry/toy bins for plants?

Thinking that perhaps it might protect tomatoes from blight, carrots from flies etc.
Just another of my wacky ideas on a wainy day!

Could be worth a try VC, I'm always looking for alternative (horticultural) uses for things. These bins are not very sturdy, so they would need decent canes at each corner, but what's to lose?

Photos please when you have it set up.
Whether you think you can or whether you think you can't, you are probably right.

I'll pick up a couple somewhere cheap and give it a go. If the pot stood inside the "cage" it would keep it in position and, maybe, 2 diagonal canes would keep the outsides square.
I have some of those mesh bags that you put odds and sods in in the washing machine, I think they could have a use too!

I think the mesh is a bit too big to protect from blight and the base seems to be dark so it would need taking off in the daytime!

But you could use the structure and put fleece over instead.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I'd sit the pot inside the frame so the "solid" base wouldn't matter. Not sure about the open top though - would need something there.
