  • Asparagus problem

We have an allotment of which the soil is quite sandy. Can anyone suggest why after four years of planting[and producing the first year of enjoyable spears last year] our aspargus have now blemishes on the tips as they grow just out of the ground. The marks are approx 1 cm long by 2mm wide. There is no sign of any insect life. Could this be due to birds?Any advice would be gratefully received!!!Thank you.

Got any pictures Oakley? Prime suspects would be slugs and snails rather than birds, but without pictures it's hard to visualise the damage.
