  • Do slugs eat worms

As I now have a wormery and have just read about NZ flatworms does anyone know if slugs eat earthworms? Just found one in my wormery. Or am I just in shock after reading how the flatworms despatch our native earthworms.

I always thought slugs were veggies.

Wash your mouth out, you cheeky ape! I'm not a slug!
But in answer to the question, there are small slugs in my wormery too, or there were when I had one!

Thanks guys - I am getting quite protective about my wormery worms though I haven't started to name them yet. I'm also getting a bit squeamish in my old age.

You'd better name them quickly because they'll soon start multiplying and you'll never catch up. Try to teach them to come when called too!

I can only hope! Never had much luck with the hubby, children or dog though. Cat was OK.

All worms have to worry about is birds, hedgehogs, badgers and foxes as far as I know, and probably many more predators. However, they dig them out of the ground not your lovely wormery.

The slug I found is now a ysbryd in any case.

I wish I hadn't seen this as they could be in my garden at this very minute.

What we wants is for the ghost slug to develop a taste for NZ flatworms... - now that would be a result!

What if they interbred? They'd look like tagliatelle
