the perp flew off as I got close but he was brown about half inch long (1.25cm for the young un) and he looked to have a yellowish diamond on his back. Any one have any idea or a link to a site that I cam mug shot him from.

Well Sarge, I was walking North towards the Legume estate when I noticed a bug wearing a brown bomber jacket with a yellowish diamond shape motiff on the back. As I approached the perp he fell off a wigwam, suspecting that we had a case of FUI (flying under influence) I was reaching down when he flew back onto the wigwam in a vain attempt to blend in with the surroundings, my trusty K9 (see attached) was investigating the crazed gyrations of a Orange Tip butterfly and was of no help.
I attempted stealth and a quick whack with the trusty truncheon but the litle bilghter took flight and scarpered. I have set up an incident command centre and will await developements.

I suggest an ASBO ... ( for the bug, not the dog)

Perhaps more helpfully, here is a website I found with some photos of insects

            http://www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/insects/index.htm

Hope you find something similar to what you saw.

I am thinking shield bug or capsid bug, as they sometimes have quite distinctive markings...

great site many thanks. I think you are right in that he looks like a common nettle capsid (the bug, not the dog )

                  Am I being dim, what's a perp?????

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Don't watch 'The Bill' then Alison? 'Perp' as in 'perpetrator' or criminal,as in the little bug which was possibly eating/infecting/eyeing up the plant.
