  • What's wrong with poor clematis?

I planted this Piilu clematis a month or so ago, and it did very well until the first flowers opened. It then began to wilt, and the remaining flowers hung down unopened. A new shoot from the base is vigorous, and flowers are about to open on it. The plant is outside the back door, has had some washing up water ( and maybe some liquid feed from my husband!)
Hope the pics show what I mean: the healthy shoot is on the right

A better pic of the healthy part:

This sounds like the dreaded Clematis wilt - in which case cut the wilted shoots back to below where they are infected and the healthy shoot should replace them in time. This is one of the reasons you are advised to plant clematis extra deep, below the level in the pot.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

And don't forget to ensure that its "feet" are in the shade - cover the roots with a flower pot or summat....
