Wireworms where i've planted potatoes!

Last weekend when planting some beans and lettuce i noticed some wireworms in the soil - i picked them out and squished them but i suspect there are more i've missed. This was in an area the OH dug over a month or so ago and incorporated some of our cow muck. It was grass and weeds last year so wasn't used for growing any crops. OH also planted some of our maincrop potatoes into this bit a couple of weeks ago, and while i would be meticulous about picking things like weeds and pests out of the soil, he isn't. (creating double the amount of work....but thats another story)

I'm annoyed as i've seen the damage they do and i wasn't planing on lifting this variety early Can't ask him if he saw any as he'll only get stroppy!

They do tend to be a problem in areas where it was pasture or grass and is turned over to crops. The problem will ease over the next few years but your tatties may get a savaging this year if there were many you missed.

I know - but it was only grassy last year (had been an allotment before but not really used for growing crops in that corner - just rotavated to keep the weeds down) so i'd had my fingers crossed they'd be ok.
