Thank you Lottie and Two_Sheds for saving me from having to rant about Horsetail vs. mares-tail It isn't just pedantry, it makes a difference to search results if people are trying to search for information on how to deal with it because the two are completely different species!

LD, if you have some good results from your trials with the Mexican tagetes I'd love to know - my plots are both full of horsetail, and although I don't think it bothers tall plants too much, it definitely isn't great for my onions

I think peeps are so USED to calling it mares,it just rolles of the toungue, perhaps a sticky in the weeds section,in big letters might get the message accross, like retraining the mind,it has given us a laugh, but as you say,on a more serious note, ref new people searches,
REF the m marigolds,it will have to wait another 12 months, the self setters look like they have succummed to the season, same as others plants, they are nowhere near as big for time of year, plus the horse tail lawn area is to hard to do any tranceplants now, plus with having it covered for a few weeks now,not much green is up,but the little hounds are there just waiting for the light, you can see some roots, however, the ones i planted last year 2011,the area appears to be a lot better, but it was only a small area,as i did not realize what i had until to late to act or think,i have not managed to keep check on the weeds this year,,so am chopping of the tall and thick roots and rake it of,then dig over when i can get an impliment in,we have wide cracks, looks like a dried up river bed with weeds on,my observation on this little patch seem to be better than it was,but no idea as to what if any effect it will have on veggie plants, owing to the season, sorry for the long post, but felt i had to address what i started,i will have to do some more googling on the subject,,
sigpicAnother nutter ,wife, mother, nan and nanan, love my growing places, seed collection and sharing, also one of these
