  • My tree is dead!

I can't believe it! I had a chinese pistachio tree, leafs up bright green in spring, survives the baking heat, and goes beautifully orange in autumn. Then I refer to it as my 'Chinese Stick Tree' all winter.

I've had it about 4-5 yrs I think? It's not huge, but that's because the topsoil is not deep enough to support huge trees. Except for snow gums.

Anyway it didn't leaf up yet this year. I got worried, hoping that it was just late getting going. But it looks like it put buds onto the branches, but then died.

Looked at it, and found that it has just split totally thru the trunk near the ground!

Why? I've never seen one like it. Not one where you get the bark eaten away on one side and the plant kind of goes into a decline. This looks like it just split.

I will try and take a photo soon. So sad, as I loved that tree!

One bit of old folklore wisdom says to plant tomatoes when the soil is warm enough to sit on with bare buttocks. In surburban areas, use the back of your wrist. Jackie French

I feel for you Feral, I know what it is like to plant a tree and watch it grow only to succumb.
Not having grown any fruiting trees with any success, I don't know what to suggest as the cause... it's just nuts... ?
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

That's horrid news. Do you think wildlife have nibbled it? So sorry for you Feral as it sounded a beautiful tree.
