Slug Stoppa - it looks like cat litter...???

I've been using Slug Stoppa in my garden and it works pretty well, but it looks just like the fullers earth based cat litter. I was going to get some and try it to see if it works in the same way - it would certainly be cheaper.

I wondered if there there would be any drawbacks to using a small amount of cat litter (unused of course ) on the soil?

I'm using 'Slug off' from Aldi it was £2.49 for a huge box, it sounds the same stuff as you're using.
Not sure about using cat litter tho.

Tried that (cat litter) didn't work, neither did slug stoppa... I think my slugs must either not have read the instructions about slugs not wanting to travel over rough surfaces or they were pole-vaulting.

can you get organic slug pellets at all??

The best organic slug control are hedgehogs - we have at least 2 in our garden and suffer very little with slug damage. Ferramol based pellets are said to be "organic".

I'm using Slug Stoppa for the first time. I believe it contains ground pumice which is why it dries their bums out! It works for me - but you have to make an impenetrable barrier around your plants or they'll pick their way through. I'm going to 'refresh' it all after the rain too.

I've never seen hedgehogs on our allotment but after finding one run over just outside the allotment gate sadly know that they must have been around. The problem is there is farmland over the road from the allotment and this main road has been responsible for the death of four foxes ( I know) 2 blackbirds and the hedgehog this year alone.
As to non hedgehog slug killers, the Feramol preparation is the only one that offers real protection although its looking as if a mulch of coffee grounds is also helping.
Now I've got hens I am saving the egg shells to crush to see if this helps as a barrier.

I'd just like some ideas on how to keep them out of the greenhouse, found 24 in there over the weekend.

Recently I've seen copper strips that you can wrap around pots, beds and other stuff that is supposed to stop slugs and snails. Aldi or Lidl's had a kit for sale, but I've seen it elsewhere too.

Apparently it produces small electrolytic currents in their mucus so they don't like crossing it!

Might cost a bit to surround your greenhouse but it certainly won't poison any hedghogs or birds.

I'm using the copper from inside eletric cable, I have afree supply OH works in that trade, it takes a bit of time to strip the coverings off - but so far so good - touch wood (touches head). I have put it around each row of peas and beans i havr planted out, it must be in contact with soil or the little b....... get under it - but last time I looked all my plants are still there and un chewed. been out for about 1 month. I have put it under the memberane that I have set the potatoes under, only time will tell on that one.
