  • Grrrrrr Rabbits!

Just venting really. I went to the lottie last night to discover that my pea plants had all been eaten back to a bare 1/2 inch long stump. These were from the last the seeds of a variety that I have been growing for years (think they were called tuten karmen frizzle or something along those lines). Really don't know if I am going to be able to rabbit proof my plot. Grrrrrr

Luckily we don't seem to have a wabbit problem. Its probably the rats chasing them away...............

Can't be 100% sure but the other plot holders seem to think its the bunnys. It's a really rural location with not many pigeons about but there are reports of rats up there around the chicken sheds. Guess that I'll have to net everything. Shame really. Still cross with myself for not giving them proper protection. Grrrr

Hi, can I grow anything that the rabbits won't eat? I have a garden full everyday, they even eat the conifer tree and blossom from the magnolia!

Are there any rabbit scaring devices that actually work? (Other than cats!)

Properly installed rabbit fencing is your best bet. It has to be installed in an L shape, with the bottom part of the L underground so that when the bunnies try to dig under it all the find is more fence. Chicken wire will do. If you do that round the whole perimeter of your veg patch/allotment it will keep them out.

Shooting them is all well and good, but rabbits multiply pretty quickly and you wouldn't get on top of the problem any time soon. Better to build a defense that will last imho.

Loads of bunnies up here where I live but the foxes do a good job of keeping numbers about right. Rooty does a good job of keeping the fox at bay too.

There are a lot of videos on YouTube showing how to install rabbit-proof fencing. This is a good start: Rabbit Proof Fencing Berkshire - YouTube

We learnt the hard way when we first took on a lottie........onions looked like someone had gone along them with a pair of scissors. Needless to say we now have rabbit fencing all round our plot.
