Can anyone help with identifying the two weeds that are taking over my garden?

Hi Random and welcome.
The ist weed that is twining itself around another plant is convolvulus/ bindweed - sorry! Its a real nuisance to get rid of it - long white roots and if they snap off, it will regrow from the remaining bit.
I'm not really sure what the second one is - when you dig some up, does it have a long white root too?

I thought as much with it been bindweed. Was hoping I was wrong!

As for the second. I've just pulled one up and roots are big. Going to be a big job getting rid of them.

Are there any fruit trees nearby - cherry maybe? Could be suckers from the roots.

That was also my first thought. There is a cherry tree only 2 meters away. However the leaves are not the not the same as the cherry tree...

If the cherry tree has been grafted onto a rootstock, the suckers may be coming from that so would look different.

Not too sure about rootstocks, but it's a big ornamental cherry. If it is from suckers then, do you know how I can keep them from popping up?

I agree with VC that they are cherry suckers. Not much you can do but keep cutting them off. Everywhere there are cherry roots near the surface it will sucker. best control is to grass the area and then mowing keeps them under control. otherwise I suppose you'd need to remove all those near-surface roots, but the tree (I'm guessing it's a big mature specimen) will grow more anyway.

It'll all be back again next week. I'm not laughin at you, I'm commiserating. I have it bad too, all I can do is keep hoeing it off as it appears, and digging out the roots when I can get to them.
It's coming from next door, and they don't even try to control it, so it's a losing battle


btw, you have blackfly on those cherry suckers. Keep an eye on that, they'll be on your beans next
