Weed/sucker coming up through my grass; what is it and how do I kill it!

Hi all

Can anyone help me identify this plant/sucker? It is growing up through my lawn and popping up everywhere. I think it may have come from an old fruit tree but I am not sure.

Hard to be sure. Looks a bit like Lilac?

Usually I just mow until stuff gives up.

They are suckers of a nearby cherry tree or Blackthorn bush, you are going to have to dig them out, or find what they are sucking from and dig that out, or just mow them more frequently.

Thanks for this. I have already tried digging them out but some have started to grow back and my lawn looks awful (trying to repair it now). I tried weed killer which has works on some but also killed the grass (another reason why it looked awful). I can't seem to find the source as they are springing up everywhere. We did used to have a large damson tree which we cut down but the leaves looked completely different so I didn't think it was this. I will continue to mow. Thanks

Just mow it, and don't put any more weedkiller on what's left of your lawn
