Perhaps it was all the rain washing the soapy water away that allowed the blackfly back? Perservere a little longer now it seems to have dried up. I've had a large mock orange for years and have never had any aphid problems - but last year we had an infestation of stag beetles in there, that was nasty! Hope you get lots of lovely flowers PT.

Or you can just squash them, if you're not so squeamish. Get some nasturtium plants, last year the black fly I had were almost 100% on them, they love it. They killed all the Nasturtiums but I'd planted them specifically to attract Black fly away from my Toms, though I was very surprised how effective they were.
