I don't use weed killers or pesticide due to the possibility it's been the cause of the decline in bees, I would personally dig them up, I'm a bit of a hippy so use weeds for their medicinal and food values. http://herbs-treatandtaste.blogspot....tings.html?m=1 this has a fair bit of info about other uses for dock aswel as nettle sting treatment

It's your plot, your decision. What do you feel comfortable doing?
Try half and half as an experiment if you like.

You can always tell them that you are trying to grow organically. You'll be down as a lentil-weaver in their eyes and that excuses any number of odd/daft practices you want to try.

I have said I wasn't keen on using weed killer and they shake they're heads and say I'll never get the weeds out! Did meet one bloke today who likes to dig, he said hand him a spade and he'll dig till tea time- I was tempted to hand him mine especially as it was about 930 in the morning 😜

Hi I have an allotment that was overgrown with dock. Nightmare, however I used to pay forty quid a month for a gym membership however I now call the plot my free gym. Every time I go 20 mins weeding and not saying I am on top of them after two years but they are certainly in decline.

Problem we have is taking over a plot not worked for 3 to5 years the seeds are in the soil and every time you turn it up comes the new weeds.

I use a method of hoeing off beds and then watering to get the seeds started and then hoe off again, much easier than trying to get the last bit or root and I mean two foot down and plus.

Not used any weed killer yet and between my bike and the garden knocked off two stone in two years

Believe me fresh air brill fresh produce and making new friends has been Cush

I dig them out, pull them up, cut off the leaves of those I can't get to right away.

yep, that's the way. The easiest time to dig them out is when they are starting to flower, then the roots have less hold on the soil

Small ones can just be hoed off

At the end of the day, it is your plot and you should deal with your own weeds as you see fit.

.... just so long as it doesn't impact on your neighbours. I had a neighbour who sprayed RoundUp one day: and killed half my plot, because it was windy

Yes you will. I've had horsetail, docks, couch grass, bindweed, thistles, nettles, brambles ... they all give up eventually, or at least you can beat them into submission so they're annoying rather than invasive thugs

(by which I mean: don't ritually dig the soil over just because)

My plan is to dig everything once getting as many weed roots as I can out then to just hoe them off/ pull them out as and when I see them on no dig beds
