Maybe I am getting confused but I thought it was time for cabbage white butterflies? I saw one in May and since then nothing. Last year I seem to remember clouds of them in biblical proportions at this time of year. Am I being somewhat optomistic?

Apologies if I already posted this, but the mild winter is bad for insects that overwinter as pupae, like cabbage whites. They tend to succumb to fungus diseases and to predators that are still moving about.
Insects that hibernate as adults, like peacock and small tortoiseshell butterflies, had a much better time of it.

I've seen quite a few, probably not as many as last year but am certainly not going to risk removing any netting!
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

On the general subject of insects, this time last year my lavender was awash with carder and garden bumbles, but so far I've seen no carders and only a few garden/white tailed bumbles. Anyone else got many?Location - Leicestershire - Chisit-land
Endless wonder.
