Can any slugs live in the compost? Shall I just chuck any I find in there?
Well, no. They will live and breed in there, which is fine if they are the good ones, but you don't want the bad ones breeding in there, or when you spread that compost on your beds you'll be adding lots of big healthy slugs too.
I used to have an issue with slugs and snails in my garden, and I even purchased some slug pellets last summer to deal with them.
I haven't used them as I have great success with just picking them up and putting them in the green waste bin from our local council.
Since doing this I haven't really seen much of them.
Just the odd trail here and there which I know I will catch the culprit of.
The one thing I may do this autumn though is use Nematoads to deal with what little I have left.
I'll even use it on my neighbours' garden so as to stop them making their way into mine.
its the residue that they leave on your fingers when you pick em up to hoy they into your neighbours garden that annoys me. Its all snotty and even when you rinse your hand you can still feel you fingers slipping! The stuff is like glue!

Simply look around and view it.

Serves you right for inflicting them on your neighbours
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

You pick them up bare handed? I can't even do it with gloves on. I have to wear my gloves double check there's no holes in them get two big sticks and sing them as chopsticks fling them as far as possible!
I grabbed a bunch of weeds and a slug in with them by accident bare handed a week or so ago. Made me feel ill and had to scrub like mad before I couldn't feel it anymore!
I quite like snails and their boingy eyes though. But I know they are a menace. I don't believe anyone can like slugs though! Although, there is a kids cartoon film called Epic and there is a really likeable slug and snail on it!
You may say I'm a dreamer... But I'm not the only one...
I'm an official nutter - an official 'cropper' of a nutter! I am sooooo pleased to be a cropper! Hurrah!

Haha yeah, I dont wear gloves if I can help it, there isnt much dangerous stuff in our garden apart from nettles (for prickles n stuff).
I quite like snails and used to just leave them be but now they go over the garden fence. I did try the beer trap but I get such a guilt trip because Ive caused their death at least my latest method they have a chance of survival haha
