I have read the others and did not see these 2 tips: Copper Wire
Apparently they cannot bear to touch it so strip old cables and surround the plants.
Alternatively, if you ever see a hedgehog - encourage it to stay - I believe they love eating slugs.
lager is a beer indeed. Beer is a broad word and includes: Stouts, Ales, bitters and lagers not to forget barley wine. Slugs will love and die for them including me. P.S. slugs also love wine expecially vintage ones.

Don Vincenzo
Thanks Don. Being a wine person don't know much about beer (except Adnams ales! being originally from the Suffolk/Essex border) Noticed I had caught a few slugs during the night with the lager, just tiny ones but a start.

well, I've got some slug pellets down, and clearly they work -lots of slime and dead beasties. have just bought some bran (tip on here I think?) - but does anyone know how it works and how much to put out?
I used up left over cat litter on slugs after moving once with very good effect but now I put a pile of straw on the ground and check it in the morning and they seem to like sleeping it, makes collection easier!
New slug pellets from Gardening Success (I think) contain Ferramol and are kinder to wildlife and pets. They can also be used in organics as I understand things. I use them (B&Q and loads of places sell them now) and they have been very effective so far. The problem with all slug pellets is that they dry out very quickly and so will only be effective for a few days.
The bestest way to avoid slugs is to have a pond - our 3'x3' one attracts loads of frogs and we hardly ever see slugs in the back garden but plenty in the front.
Know what you mean Bugeyes. See the odd slug but never find significant damage. Think it's because the fox goes through the garden every night lapping them all up. He knows where they all hide.
From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs.
Beer traps but always put a few twigs in them to help out the nicer bugs, slugs are more susceptable to beer but ground beetles still get sozzled. Also, there are organic pellets out there now.
Did anyone see young lad on chelsea flower show tonight? Think he was spreading oats around his crops to stop the slugs eating his edibles. Said the slugs eat it and dry out, I think he said. Anyone else used this method?
